The Wedding : These are pictures from the 8.8.08 wedding. I decided to publish the bad with the good. It was taking too long to make decisions, like from last August!!! The first photos are breakfast rehearsal day. There are a couple of rehearsal photos, followed by the wedding. Near the end, I took pictures of a poster advertisiing a performance of Bukeka's. While taking picutures of the poster, the woman in the chair wanted me to take her picture. The ;ast few frames are of the drive back. These were taken in Illinois.

Ghana Slave Castles : These pictures were taken at Cape Coast Castle. Blankson in the dashiki was our guide. The pix on page of the people were taken at Elmina. Over a thousand, sometimes as many as 1500 people were crowded into these dungeons. They were herded into these dungeons. The men were separated from the women. Their food was thrown to them from the opening above. There were no facilities! No doubt these conditions themselves led a lot of deaths.

AAAG in Ghana : Thanksgiving dinner at Association of African Americans in Ghana (AAAG). Since Thanksgiving is an American holiday, it is not recognized in Ghana. However, there is a connection of African Americans who live in Ghana and there is an association to maintain their ties. The Saturday following Thanksgiving day, the AAAG had their Thanksgiving dinner. The Association, based in Accra, has about 200 members. For the Cape Coast area, there is a similar organization but its membership is largely persons of African descent from the West, not just the US.

Cruise Oslo Entry Nobel Hall Hard Rock : The entry into Oslo is very much like navigating the islands of Stockholm. There is a real charm to the island residences. Frame 26 shows a twin tower which is City Hall. City Hall is where the Nobel Prize for Peace is awarded. The hall was built in 1956. Interestingly, it replaced a red light district. To recognize the history of this space, a sculpture on the side of the building shows a lady of the night with her pimp on the one side and her John on the other. Wood carvings in the wall of the building assert aspects of Norway's history. The murals in the hall are outstanding. We ended up at the Hard Rock Cafe refreshing ourselves on a Norweigian beer. Near the dock is a statue of FDR. Norway rejected joining the European Union. Human rights are a highly valued in Norway and other Scandinavian countries. These nations were the first the take stands against slavery.

Amsterdam Leidesplein-Brazilians : Leidesplein is the place to hangout, which we did several times. Street artists perform here in the square on a regular basis. An interesting set of events took place. The scenes begin with juggler holding center stage. When he finishes some Africans move in to do some routines. Out of nowhere the police appear. The very next group is the two women in red doing the hula hoops. Not that the spot where the police stood is vacant. There are a number of great restaurants in the area. The Bull Dog Coffee Shop anchors the area. While in the area, we followed the drums to a Brazilian demonstration. We joined in.

Cruise St Petersburg City Scenes : St. Petersburg is an absolutely beautiful city. It is often referred to as the Venice of the north because of its canals. It is an old city. It is 300 years old. Its history is a key aspect of European and world history. That history is well-preserved and contributes greatly to the city's beauty and its importance. According to tour guides the average monthly income for Russians is around $400 to $500 per month. Russia has been beset by many wars. They are very proud of their history. Their coat of arms has a two-headed eagle -- one head pointed to the east the other the west. Being 300 years old and poor, its infrastructure faces severe challenges. They are reflected in buildings that are not the historic edifices. The transportation system is dated. The people seem to be energetic and stylish. Having said that, there was little opportunity to interact with the Russian people in that Russia remains a very closed society. Automobiles in Russia are often in ill-repair. It is said that only about 50% of the drivers have a driver's licence.

We visited the park and monuments in his name. After visiting the market, we stopped to listen to an Air Force brass quintet play some American pieces for the Helsinki audience at Kappeli's. Barcelona : Barcelona was our embarkation port for our Southern Europe Cruise in 2005. Next to Amsterdam we have found Barcelona to be the most fun. We were able to stay right on Las Ramblas. We dined at the 4 Gats, Picasso's favorite restaurant. One of his paintings has the 4 Gats theme. With Pat and Ron Walters, we did a flemenco show, visited various sights. At the 4 Cats a guest, an unfamilar Jose Peres, literally gave Bob the shirt off his back.
